None of the experts I emailed in the field responded with anything substantial. One offered to get back to me later, and another told me he couldn't send me the ontology he had. In any regard, I will not be getting any help from that sector. Instead, I will utilize the descriptions of their ontologies described in their papers to create my own, based on the CreativeWork Thing from Schema.org and some snippets of information found online about the Game Ontology Project. My ontology will be completely defined by the end of winter break.
After the break I plan to finish implementing a basic layout using Twitter Bootstrap. Dr. Bansal is working on acquiring a domain name for me to use so that I can start pulling data. After that, I will link my ontology with my database and the final project will begin to pull together.
I plan to apply for funding for myself and another team member to go to the ACM Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing in February. We are lucky to be provided funding by CREU to attend this conference; I am incredibly excited about this opportunity, and I very much hope we are approved to go. I have also applied to be a Conference Associate at the Game Developers Conference in March; if I am accepted, I will use my time and experiences there talking to people about game recommendation software and ontologies when I have the opportunity. My hope is that these two conference experiences will provide me with some context for my project.
I am currently working on the Mid-Year Progress Report to send to CREU. Besides one final update when I finish my ontology, I will not be working on the project or posting again until after winter break. I look forward to the work of my teammates and the result of our research.
